Abstract One of those recruited to the Industrial Institute of Economic and Social Research [Industriens Utredningsinstitut—IUI] when the latter was founded in 1939 was Axel Carlsson. He was 25 years old. Carlsson had graduated from the Stockholm School of Economics the year before.
