Chapter Chapter 4 in Islamic Philanthropy, 2022, pp 75-91 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract There are a lot of opportunities for waqf land development in Brunei Darussalam. However, there are constraints that restrict the development of waqf lands. This study investigates the constraints of waqf land development in Brunei and explores ways of overcoming the constraints to realize the potential economic values of waqf lands. This study advocates qualitative research methods. The primary data collection was done through in-depth interview and supported by secondary data. Results show that there are challenges in terms of human resources, expertise, support from top management, working partnerships, waqf enactment, and public awareness. Concerted efforts and support from all related parties are required in order to initiate and better formulate waqf land-administration policy in Brunei as a way forward.
