Chapter 9 in The Political Economy of Independent Ukraine, 2000, pp 149-168 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract In Chapter 3, the Ukrainian polity was analysed and the question addressed of how power, especially in relation to economic processes, is organized. The focus has been on the functioning of the political system and the state bureaucracy. However, the state, political system and bureaucracy are all part of society and socially embedded, although a prominent feature of the Ukrainian polity is the enormous division between the polity and the population.
