Research on Minerals for Philippine Development Planning: A Survey
Teodoro M. Santos
No WP 1981-02, Working Papers from Philippine Institute for Development Studies
Abstract:
Studies on the mineral industry, specifically on metallic minerals, have dealt with the generation of geologic information, considered a vital input in the various stages of the mineral industry. This paper notes, however, that there is uneven distribution of research on the mineral industry vis-Ã -vis its developing state in the country. Thus, the study points to the inadequate research on institutional and human resources in the industry, mining technology and global developments as they affect local industry, environmental, social and political conditions induced by the industry. Future research should then strive to deal with issues on mineral research and policy priorities, factor endowments, technology, investments and the global economic and domestic environment.
