Abstract: The hypothesis here is that the risk of eviction which squatters in a given area face largely determines the nature of property conventions that abate the state of initial conflict arising from contending claims over illegally occupied land. This is examined by analyzing the two most commonly observed land allocation mechanisms in the squatter settlement.
