 La concentrazione industriale per i sistemi di trasporto sostenibile: un caso di successo nel Mediterraneo orientaleAlga Foschi () Discussion Papers from Dipartimento di Economia e Management (DEM), University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy Abstract: The necessity for firms working in the inter-modal transportation to become bigger is described in the paper as a strategic lever to the success of SSS anywhere and in the Mediterranean as well. Big firms as well as hybrid forms (joint ventures or strategic alliances, etc.) have the capacity and possibility to manage the entire network chain and facilitate the economic and transportation systems growth in a sustainable way. The policy indicated in the 2001 White Book are not sufficient to reach the goal proposed of moving massif quantities of cargos from the road to the railway as well from the road to the sea. We sustain that an explicit policy for supporting to the creation of big firms, while in moment those evolutions are quite opposed in all UE, has to be adopted, beside other policies already adopted. From logistic point of view the idea is also that a specialisation of vessels and infrastructures has to be scheduled: Ro-ro vessels and Ro-ro hub and spokes systems have to be realized beside the actual already existing for full-container vessels. On the land side the enforcement of ferroutage has to be considered.
