Pleiotropy and synergistic cooperation

Abstract: Some forms of stable cooperation can evolve though pleiotropy with a beneficial private trait. This Formal Comment addresses a recent challenge to this idea, arguing that for synergistic, frequency-dependent cooperation, pleiotropy can raise the frequency up to a point where cooperation is favoured on its own.
