Abstract: The main objective of this paper is the analysis of the electricity sector in Brazil and the whole restructuring process occurred since the creation of the Electricity National Agency (ANEEL). It is discussed if the regulation of the electricity sector in Brazil brought benefits to the development of this one, and if there exists a relationship with the current electricity crisis. At the same time, is done a comparison with the crisis in California. Based on this study, it is discussed some proposals to the improvement of the electricity energy offer conditions in Brazil.
