Demokratischer Wirtschaftsfrieden

Abstract:
This empirical study examines the influence of regime type on the initiation and severity of economic sanctions using regression analyses. The results indicate a more peaceful economic relationship among democracies. Previous research explains the economic peace through the use of institutional theory. This study contrasts this rational cost-benefit-logic with constructivist theory, which ascribes the peaceful conflict resolution among democracies to the formation of a shared identity as well as shared values and norms.
