Demographic factors as determinants of external balances

James Wabenga Yango, Benoit Carmichael and Kevin Moran

MPRA Paper from University Library of Munich, Germany

Abstract: This paper develops, solves and calibrate a dynamic general equilibrium model to examine the effect of demographic factors on the external balance of countries. This is quite an advanced multi-country model with different age structures across country. I find that this different age structure has a large impact on savings, resulting in poorer countries having large external balance surpluses whilst more developed countries will have large deficits.
