A Brief Political Economy of Globalization and EMU

Abstract: This is a paper written in 1999, published in 2000, being unaware of the Glass–Steagall Act, which was just signed into law by Bill Clinton, which was aiming at speeding up globalization, and which Joseph Stiglitz and others want it to have corroborated the financial crises of 2007-2009. Yet, the paper did anticipate such crises and the debt crises in the south of Eurozone, while politically, did expect more or less phenomena like the Arab Spring, the identity search of modern France and Germany, the confrontation of the West with Russia, the current turmoil in the Middle East, and the current de-Christianization campaign. They, the forthcoming collapse of European Union, and perhaps a third great war are all that one would logically expect to be the outcome of world domination aspirations made possible as one of the three possible manifestations of globalization which are spelled out in this paper. I chose at the time to submit it for possible publication in the journal “Ekonomski Horizonti” of the University of Kragujevac in Serbia because it was the post-Cold war events in former Yugoslavia that made me start thinking about globalization.
