Abstract:
Middle management plays substantial role in creating core capabilities, innovation and competitive advantage of companies in knowledge economy. Our research indicates that while there may exist broad alignment between top management and middle management on general aspects of intra-company innovation environment, there are significant differences between different levels of management in perception of characteristics of innovation processes. Such differences may undermine effectiveness of innovation activity in companies and de-motivate middle management from generating and participating in innovation. They also point to a deeper misunderstanding of importance of middle management for innovation.
