Employment Functions and the Demand for Labour in the Short-Run

Abstract: This paper surveys the econometric research on the determinants of fluctuation in employment in industrial economies. The results are used to evaluate some modern macro theories of employment and unemployment and suggest how future empirical work might proceed.
