Abstract:
In this part we propose a new MRC compression scheme, based on k-means clustering for image decomposition into layers and on image interpolation and resampling for filling in sparse layers. This scheme also uses JPEG2000 for the actual compression of the foreground and background layers and JBIG2 for mask compression. Additionally, more than 30 resampling filter functions representing three main filter families (polynomial, exponential and windowed-sinc) have been implemented and their effects on this compression scheme analyzed. From the best ones selected, several conclusions and recommendations have been derived, based on an image quality analysis using PSNR and OCR mean text confidence.
