Abstract: Domaine privilégié de l'État, l'aménagement du territoire est né de la nécessité d'assurer un meilleur équilibre des richesses sur le territoire national. L'expérience a cependant montré que les politiques conduites dépendaient étroitement des fonctions d'autorité que l'État exerçait sur les institutions locales. Ce document apporte un éclairage sur la manière dont la France est intervenue pour organiser économiquement son territoire. Entamées après la seconde guerre mondiale, ces politiques ont connu trois orientations différentes correspondant à trois périodes distinctes dans l'approche économique des modes d'intervention. Après une phase d'interventionnisme important, l'État français a progressivement opté pour la décentralisation afin de satisfaire aux exigences de la construction européenne. Mais pour quels résultats ? Main topic of government action, the region planning is born from the necessity to insure a better repartition of wealth on the national territory. However, experience showed that theses policies depended closely on the authority that government exercised over local institutions. This paper brings some elements about the ways France has taken to organize its economic territory. Started after the second world war, these policies have undergone three trends corresponding to three different periods in the economic approach of government intervention. After an important period of interventionism, the government gradually chose the way of decentralisation and took into account the requirements of the european construction. But for which results?
