Abstract: Le tournis engendré par l’incessante succession des théories et modèles de management appelle un besoin de points fixes. Observer depuis les eaux calmes de l’histoire le passage d’une société bloquée, la féodalité, à une société ouverte, le capitalisme et sa diffusion universelle, est susceptible d’apporter du sens. L’outil d’exploration est le modèle italien de Braudel, c’est à dire l’esprit d’entreprise et les techniques en financement, droit, comptabilité, sociétés, Bourse, management, élaborées par les marchands italiens au tout début du second millénaire. Ce modèle a déclenché un ouragan perpétuel de destruction créatrice et a su, par tissage collectif d’intelligence ajoutée, le dompter pour en faire un prodigieux moteur de croissance. Il ressort que six révolutions économiques s’enchaînent et s’articulent selon un schéma clair où le textile et la sidérurgie jouent un rôle clef. Incidemment, la construction européenne se présente comme un précieux garde-fou contre les dérives barbares. The vertigo brought about by the ceaseless succession of theories and models in management calls for some firm benchmarks. Observing from the appeased waters of history the transition from a closed society, feudalism, to an open one, capitalism and its world-wide diffusion, is likely to bring out some sense. The exploring tool is the Italian model of Braudel, i.e. the enterprising spirit and techniques in banking, commercial law, accounting, company creation, stock exchange, management, elaborated by the Italian merchants at the very beginning of the second millennium. This model has triggered a perennial gale of creative destruction, and has been able, thanks to a collective weaving of added intelligence, to subdue it and to shape it into a prodigious growth generator. Six economic revolutions can be perceived, articulated into a clear pattern in which textile and steel industries play a key role. Incidentally, the European Union build-up appears to be a precious protection against barbarian drifts.
