Abstract: Cooperation is a double edge sword that can either help companies achieve higher levels of performance or drive them into losses and despair. That is why the literature on strategy and entrepreneurship in emerging markets still needs to research further into the negative effects of cooperation. This study addresses the issue of cooperation dishonesty through a social experiment. Multiple sets of cooperating partners are asked to play a prisoner dilemma game while they are submitted to stress and emotional cues. This study contributes to the literature by extending the notion that the emotional state of managers involved in inter-firm alliances and the emotional state of the corporation as a whole may have an effect on the behavior of cooperating firms.
