Abstract: This paper relates to the axiological dimension of the social and economical competition, and particularly to the virtues, which are associated. After reviewing various ethical justifications of the competition and social selection, the paper criticizes some contemporary attacks against the welfare-state, and argues for a meta-liberal conception of social obligations towards vulnerable persons and groups.
