Abstract:
Our major concern in this paper is to periscope how good governance is key for democratization process in Nigeria. We specifically looked at the extent to which Nigeria's experience of democracy has a far cry since the return of democracy in 1999. Documentary method and content analysis based on qualitative description were utilized in generating and analyzing data respectively, elite theory was used as our framework of analysis. The paper reviewed that, they are certain factors militating against the success of democracy in Nigeria spanning from disregards for the rule of law, political instability, lack of sincerity on the part of the ruling party, etc. The paper further expound that good governance is fundamental in promoting democratic values to Nigeria's democracy. The paper highlight some of the key tenets of good governance which if it taped will help Nigeria in the democratization process. The paper recommends that democratic leaders in the country should avoid the politics practiced with regard to subjective factors and primordial loyalty and focus on tenets of good governance. The paper concludes that Nigeria democratic elite have done harm to democracy which affects development and undermine good governance in the country
