The comparability of fees related to payment accounts balancing necessity and reality

Abstract: This article assesses the European legislation regarding the comparability of fees related to payment accounts (i.e. Directive 2014/92/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of July 23, 2014 on the comparability of fees related to payment accounts payment account switching and access to payment accounts with basic features). It also examines the way this directive has been transposed into the Romanian legislation and it identifies the shortcomings that occurred during this process, considering the specific characteristics of the retail banking services market in Romania.
