Rivers and streams water quality models: a brief review

Alhassan H. Ismail and Diana Robescu

Romaqua, 2015, vol. 106, issue 8, 31-41

Abstract: An attempt has been made to review 11 water quality models based on a set of criteria such as basic equations, input and output data, model capability and model limitations. The selected computer water quality models are SIMCAT, TOMCAT, QUAL2E/QUAL2EU, QUASAR, QUAL2K/QUAL2Kw, WQRRS, MONERIS, WASP, MIKE-11, AQUATOX and EPD-RIV1. This review will benefit modelers by providing a comprehensive summary and capabilities of river and stream water quality models in current use. In addition, it provides further review of the available rivers and stream water quality models to aid the non specialist modeler by considering different criteria to decide which model can be used appropriately for a particular situation.
