Abstract:
There have been debates in psychoanalysis, for many years now, regarding pluralism in theory and technique. The partisans of a „common ground" perspective, such as Otto Kernberg, Roy Schafer, Glen Gabbard, Robert Wallerstein, not only see the good thing in such diversity, but go on to suggest alliances between psychoanalytic theory and other disciplines: philosophy, linguistics, cognitive psychology, the psychology of development and contemporary neuroscience. The reason for this would be the very interface that exists between psychoanalysis and the stated disciplines, spanning on a general scale in the study of human behaviour (Wallerstein, 2005b, p. 635). Given that psychoanalysis deals with a domain that situates itself between nature and culture (Green), calling in sciences from especially the „nature" end of the scale would seem justified, for such action brings in the advantage of methods compatible with empirical testing (Wallerstein, 2005a, p. 624).
