Typology of the Russian regions in terms of quality indices of life of the population

Abstract: The article presents the results of typology of subjects of the Russian Federation in terms of quality of life indicators on the basis of cluster analysis. The list of indicators of the quality of life is built on the basis of four selected problem areas (public health, standard of living, labor, life safety). The empirical base of the research was the data of the Federal State Statistics Service for 80 subjects of the Russian Federation for the year 2015. The clusterization of regions made it possible to allocate 4 clusters. The first cluster unites 31 regions from the Central, North-Western, Volga and Far Eastern federal districts, except for the Southern and North-Caucasian regions only. The situation in these regions is in many respects similar to the average Russian, which allows us to characterize them as typical for the country as a whole. The second cluster includes 3 regions of the North Caucasus Federal District, which are characterized by the most critical state of the indicators in question. The third and fourth clusters (accumulate in themselves in 23 regions each) vary widely in terms of living conditions: the third cluster is characterized by a high level of crime, relative to the average Russian level, while the fourth key problem is the quality of water sources for drinking purposes.
