Abstract: A phenomenon now discussed virtually everywhere, big data is used as a buzzword for a wide variety of business practices, marketing concepts, and IT solutions, manifested in metaphorical statements like "big data is the new oil". This goldrush atmosphere, at least partly inherent in current discussions, makes a more critical approach necessary from an economic point of view. Still, big data implies aspects relevant to business and society that also permits constructive criticism. In particular, questions on customer and provider integration into production and use processes, on resource development and integration, and on customer relationship development must be the focus of the assessment, at least from customer integration framework’s point of view.
