Abstract: This paper investigates the competences which have a positively impact on an agile organizational transformation. ‘Digitization’ with its rapid pace of change, intensive competitive pressure and short innovation cycles requires new ways in leadership and organizational culture. Therefore, the term ‘agile transformation’ often goes hand in hand with ‘digital transformation’. That means that a business changes its organizational competences to managing the challenges of the digital transformation successfully. 387 C-level managers of German SME companies (software and manufacturing) were surveyed. The application of agile management in manufacturing companies compared to the software sector, where the agile values and principles were defined. The evidence-based conclusion of this research is that the agile management approach is already a cross-industry standard, but with differences in in its intensity.
