Abstract:
The article introduces the review of theoretical and empirical papers devoted to mergers and acquisitions that are considered to be one of the most effective growth strategies. Having mastered the review of papers that describe diversification strategy we proceed to the analysis of papers that look at horizontal integration. Although there are heaps of papers that provide thorough analysis of one kind of deals there are almost no papers that focus on the comparison of these kinds of deals. Thus we contribute to the literature by introducing systematization of horizontal integration and diversification advantages and drawbacks to derive the determinants of deal type choice. We also emphasize papers that address M&A in emerging markets.
