Abstract:
The article provides a comparative analysis of the geopolitical positions of the USA and Russian Federation in the development of the armed conflict in Syria. Relations between countries have recently been extremely complex and characterized as the most tensive since the “cold war”. The processes are actively stimulated by the United States, the result of which is the destabilization in the Middle East region, which has begun since the "Arab spring" and continues to this day. The role of the Russian Federation in the geopolitical stabilization of the Middle East region is shown. The article concludes that, despite of the significant conceptual strategic differences between the positions of Russia and the United States in Syria, the need to counter terrorism and extremism, makes United States to look for opportunities, for dialogue and normalization of diplomatic relations, at least in the antiterrorist sphere, and can subsequently serve as one of the areas of normalization of Russian-American relations as a whole.
