Abstract: In the article, in the context of the practical relevance of the regional economy, the preferred employment of students of a modern technical university, located at a considerable distance from the capital region, is considered. The author identified statistically significant preferences in the life projects of students of a technical higher educational institution of the Southern Federal District, emphasizes the relevance of involving young people in productive activities in order to strengthen the labor potential of Russian regions through the effective adaptation of graduates of professional educational institutions. According to the author's research, graduates of technical higher education institutions in 2020 are considering a variety of employment strategies, which confirms the high mobility of youth labor resources. The author's concept consists in an annual indepth social diagnostics and examination of the preferences of Russian students in the labor market in order to develop practical measures of management influence on the formation of professional preferences and strategies for the employment of young engineering and technical personnel from the departments for career guidance and employment of universities, business, executive and legislative authorities.
