Abstract:
The article analyzes the phenomenon of protest voting – a negative form of electoral behavior, which demonstrates dissatisfaction with government policies and performance. The available data show the stable growth of negative trends in socio-economic development and subjective perception of the state of affairs in the country (since 2018), which is the basis for changes in electoral behavior. The 2018 governors’ elections showed several successful examples of rational protest voting. The persistence of negative trends in social development is a fundamental prerequisite for the expansion of electoral protest, which can take various forms.
