Abstract: This article is devoted to the study of models of national innovation systems using an interdisciplinary approach based on political science analysis. The structure of the NIS, the main economic, political and technological factors of its formation in modern states are considered in detail. The essential content of the models known to science has been studied, as well as a comparative analysis of the strategic content of the NIS varieties has been carried out. On the basis of systematized data on current political, economic and social processes of modernity, an attempt is made to apply a constructive analysis of the determining importance of various trajectories and models of innovative development for the domestic political situation and in the context of global rivalry of modern states. At the end of the study, three fundamental actionsprocesses necessary for building an NIS are given, and it is also concluded that for effective innovative development, the national state should be interested in maintaining a high level of democracy in society.
