Abstract: The article considers transformation of the Russian party system. The author points out some stages in the development of party institution in Russia. The author shows that it is peculiar for the Russian party system to have a wave character of development. It is justified that Russia tends to monocentric party system. The author states that periods of liberalization of party regulations present a temporary phenomenon whereas periods of “falls” present returning to historically developed political norm.
