Abstract: The article considers theoretical and applied aspects of relationships between the Russian Orthodox Church and the state in historical retrospective view, significant place of religious ideas and activity in the life of the society and the country. The recent practice of exceedingly tight collaboration of state and the Russian Orthodox Church shows that benevolent intentions of the power turns out to be losses of moral authority of the Church in the society.
