Abstract: The social function of the Russian state is considered from a theoretical and legal standpoint. Its place and role in the system of the main activities of the state apparatus are determined. The legal form of the social function implementation through the prism of the analysis of national projects and updated versions of Russian legislation in the social sphere is studied. The main directions of improving the effectiveness of legal policy in this area are outlined.
