Assessment of Water Shortage and Its Implications to Community Development in Sikonge District, Tanzania

Abstract: This study intended to assess the situation of water shortage and its impact to community development in Sikonge District, Tabora in Tanzania. The study area represents areas with shortage of water in the country. Questionnaire and Participatory Rural Appraisals were used to collect data in the study area. The findings show that 68% of the respondents said that rural dwellers especially in arid and semi arid areas experience water shortage almost throughout the year. During dry season especially from July to November the condition become worse. Therefore, there is a need for government and other development partners to give more priority to water sector especially in rural communities.
