Low-cost Technologies for Kirana (Small) Retail: A Game Changer?

Abstract: The small retail sector in India, which employs millions of people, faces continuous threats from the emergence of modern retail and e-commerce. There is an urgent need to become more efficient and competitive. Increased use of technology can address many of the challenges, and in the last few years, many tech start-ups have come up with low-cost technology solutions for small retailers. The article attempts to map the emergence of these low-cost technologies and draw out the themes that could help increase the adoption and help the small retailer become more competitive.
