Does the UK need a SCORE? US and UK SME advisory services compared

Abstract: Within the context of recent government proposals for the reform of small business advisory services, this article assesses whether an organisation such as the United States Service Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE) would be a desirable component of a future UK system for informing and advising would be business founders and SMEs. Following a review of SCORE, UK Government proposals and the transferability of the concept, it is concluded the idea of a ‘UK SCORE’ is worthy of further consideration.
