Determinants of Child Labour Participation: Review of Issues and Implications for Policy

Abstract: The International Labour Organisation (ILO) estimates the number of working children in the world in the age group of 5–14 years to be 250 million. In this article, we have discussed the various determinants of child labor in developing countries and its effects on a child's overall long-term development. Though, there are many non poverty factors contributing to child labor, but poverty has still been found to be the primary factor behind child labor. We have also proposed various policy measures for decision makers to tackle the problem of child labor effectively.
