Career in Consultancy: Problems and Prospects for Women in India

Abstract: This paper presents a brief overview of the problems and prospects of women in consultancy across the globe and in India, the reasons for choice of consultancy as a career option and delineates the factors that facilitate and hinder the effectiveness of women consultants. The findings suggest that major reasons for choice of consultancy as a profession by women are, flexi time, autonomy and challenge that the profession offers followed by growing opportunities in the field due to high growth of economy, increasing role of service sectors and the demands on organizations to be globally competitive.
