Abstract: This paper examines the effects of the European Community's 1992 programme for completing the internal market on economic relationships with the ASEAN countries. These relationships involve not just trade in goods but trade in services, such as air transport and very importantly, investment. Although there may be problems in some sectors the analysis concludes that the likely growth of the EC and the very rapid growth of ASEAN both as a market and a producer will ensure a favourable impact all round. Even integration with Eastern Europe is unlikely to alter that picture.
