Abstract: This paper attempts to assess the status of Traditional Knowledge Systems (TKS) as a tool of conservation in the Arakalgud administrative unit of Karnataka. The Study is based on the field investigation and interaction with the followers of Traditional systems such as healers and practitioners. Many plants in traditional agricultural systems have medicinal value; these are found in home gardens, as scattered trees in croplands and grazing lands on field bunds. Consequently there has been a reduction in the use of home remedies and preventive diets at the household level.
