Abstract: Extreme Programming represents a modern Project Management methodology, being a part of AGILE methodologies. The present paper has the purpose of making a critical analysis of the Extreme Programming (XP) from the point of view of advantages and disadvantages that it implies, both from a theoretical and practical approach. From the theoretical point of view the paper will present the main contributions in the Extreme Programming literature, analyzing in the same time the main characteristics of this methodology. From the practical point of view, making a synthesis and analysis of the main scientific papers in the field published, the paper addresses to project managers that apply XP in projects. The research methodology is an analytical one, using the theoretical study of the main contributions in literature referring to Extreme Programming, and the study of “the best practices” in the field.
