The article deals with the development of regional innovation. Competitiveness of the national innovation system and itsproper functioning is largely dependent on the strengthening of innovation processes in specific regions. Experience of developedcountries shows that the current quality of the economic area and regional innovation policy of the country is largely determined by theeffective regional systems in the area of innovation.
