Abstract: The reasons for increasing number of state-owned corporations are analyzed in this article. It is shown that the necessity of nationalization cannot be fully explained by the difference in corporate performance of state and private companies. The author of the article explains the expansion of state-owned companies in the strategic industries by inability of the Russian Government to meet national interests by redistribution of the property rights. Forming of state corporations in the manufacturing industry might be explained by the necessity to accelerate assets consolidation for companies competitive at the world market.
