Abstract: This article discuses the phenomena of the «socialist market economy» as well as uncovering some common traits between state capitalism and the capitalist dictatorships of several East Asian countries during their «catch-up» period of growth. The author then characterizes some modern models of economic development of several Eastern Asian countries which have replaced former conceptions of a centralized economy.
