Abstract: This article deals with the export potential of the Russian defence-industrial complex. The dynamics and export structure of this industry between 1994 and 2002 are also reviewed. Competition on the world arms market is also analyzed. The author examines the modernization of some perspective types of armaments within the framework of Russia's cooperation with NATO. After this analysis, the author defines the key strategic goals of the Russian defense industry such as the development of international industrial cooperation and the establishment of joint ventures with leading foreign firms in the international market of military products.
