Abstract: This article considers some of the main tendencies for industrial development in the NorthWest Federal District of the Russian Federation. Special attention is paid to structural changes and development perspectives. In the author's opinion, the state should give a high priority to the revival of those industrial branches which exploit scientific knowledge and advanced technology.
