Abstract: This article touches upon a number of problems linked with the influence of environmental and other standards on international competitiveness. Activities of several international organizations, including environmental ones, are reviewed and analyzed. The author emphasizes the concept of environmental costs and risks. The principles of corporate environmental management are also outlined. The author points to the importance of environmentally friendly production and competitiveness in the framework of economic globalization.
