Abstract:
The paper states that in the current global economic situation and taking into account the economic sanctions imposed against Russia the implementation of the import substitution policy has gained particular importance. The paper aims to examine the degree of import dependence of the Russian economy and identify possible strategies for import substitution. The paper stresses the key issues of import substitution in Russia at the moment. The challenges of import substitution arise at all levels of the economic system: general macroeconomic level and microeconomic level of individual economic entities (companies). Goods produced for import substitution purposes must comply with international quality standards and be competitive on price. Consequently, state policy should be aimed at creating high-tech industries.
