Abstract:
The paper provides a brief overview of the main types of unlawful seizure of property and defines greenmail and raiding in Russia and in the West. The author considers reasons and schemes of raiding which are specific to the Russian market conditions. The author suggests a method for calculating the risk of raiding taking into account the specifics of the Russian economy and financial parameters. It is concluded that businesses can use financial parameters as a tool for maintaining financial equilibrium while financial monitoring of business should be conducted in order to be protected against raiders' attacks and can be used to develop a strategy to counter raiders, control financial and economic situation, and protect the business against takeovers.
