Abstract: The author studies the impact of the tax system upon the socioeconomic development of a country. The author has summed up the main approaches towards the definition of the concepts of economic growth and socioeconomic development, identified the criteria used for the evaluation of both socioeconomic development and the functioning of the tax system. The research makes it possible to conclude that it is impossible to evaluate the tax system without the definition of the type of a country's socioeconomic development.
